Jack

Jack

Nineteen-seventy-three. A Saturday morning. Jack, seventy-five, stands in an institutional corridor, waiting to be picked up for weekend release to his remaining family.  On Sunday afternoon he will be delivered back to the institution.  As he waits he travels his inner landscape, rehearsing the events that took him, under aged, from the safety of his overcrowded family home in Leicester, to the swamps of The Western Front in WWI. In Ypres, a catastrophic accident tips him over the edge of endurance and into fifty years of life in state mental hospitals, as a ward of the state.  His tale of memory bring him full-circle to the moment he stands before us.
