Indigo Presents: Table Manners

First, there’s Annie, thoughtful and quiet but conducting a secret affair. Then there’s Reg, Annie’s brother; he’s the kind of man who forgets the names of his own children. His wife Sarah is confident, put together, and always playing the matchmaker. We’ve also got Tom, who is wise in the ways of the world and gives good advice, or at least he thinks he does. Ruth, the elder sister, is high flying and ambitious but struggles to find the time for family. Then, of course, there’s her husband, Norman…

Although written over 40 years ago, Ayckbourn’s situational comedy, set entirely in the dining room of a middle-class family, remains as relatable and sharp-witted as ever. It is a story of pent-up need, thwarted release and subsequent frustration, offering not only laughs but an astute observation of human folly. While maintaining the original work’s classic satire on the family dynamic, we have brought the strength and wit of the female characters to the forefront of the production.
