EdPreview: Omar Hamdi: In The Valleys of the Kings

Omar Hamdi (as seen on BBC Three and heard on BBC Radio 2) will be performing his debut stand-up show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August with his show In The Valleys of The Kings and is previewing it at Etcetera Theatre Camden for 2 nights only.

Growing up with an Egyptian single mum in Wales let Omar ponder all the big questions: What is depression? Have men ruined the world? Is love real, or is it our most destructive invention? Are Islamic State just lads on tour? And how can he make his mum proud?

Omar is Russell Kane’s national and international support act, and has appeared on Seann Walsh’s Comedy Spectacular (BBC3) and Free Speech (BBC3), as well as being a regular Radio 2 contributor. Omar also co-hosts Philosofa, a lighthearted, philosophy podcast.

What the press have said about Omar:

“Just what the comedy scene has been crying out for…seductive charm and commanding presence; a Welsh-Egyptian funnyman who’s going places with a mixture of streetwise observational humour and shrewd passing insights into the confusions of British multiculturalism”   The Daily Telegraph

“An emerging comedian funnily at home as an outsider. He is quickly establishing himself as a talented comic commentator on topical events… a show to look out for at the Edinburgh festival this year” The Journalist Magazine

‘”One of Wales’ rising comedy stars” South Wales Echo
