The Red Shoes

The Red Shoes

THE RED SHOES

In 2011 a young woman is caught up in the heady madness of the summer riots and from the rubble picks up a pair of red shoes. This image is caught on camera and suddenly she becomes the infamous perpetrator of a crime that she is unaware of committing. A hundred years earlier another young woman becomes infamous for her illicit attachment to a pair of red shoes and quickly her destiny spirals out of her control. When the two stories collide will either be able to escape a punishment that far outweighs the crime.

Guy Jones’ compelling new version of this familiar story directed by MaryClare O’Neill and music composed by Roma Yagnik explores the growing culture to measure self-worth in material possessions, a trend prevalent across society. Do we live in a world where a dangerous divide between those who have and those who have not is undermining individual judgement?

As part of The Etcetera Theatre’s PNPA Festival (Pay Nothing Play Anything) new for 2013
