CLAIRE DOWIE:

Buy Little Buy Less Buy Nothing At All

(Primark, See It And Die!)

written and performed by Claire Dowie

Award winning writer and performer Claire Dowie performs her latest comedy recently translated into German as “Primark, See It And Die!”

In 1988 Claire Dowie’s performance of her play Adult Child/Dead Child won a Time Out Theatre Award; in 2010 the same play won the Fringe Report Best Drama Award for Katy Vans and Leah Townley for their production at the Etcetera Theatre as part of the Camden Fringe.

Claire Dowie is delighted to be returning to the Etcetera Theatre to perform herself.  Buy Little Buy Less Buy Nothing At All tells the story of waking up one morning to discover a tragic inability to shop …

“Claire Dowie combines the smoothness and audience rapport of a stand-up comic, the hypnotic intensity of an inspired storyteller and the inventiveness of an insightful and sensitive author, alternately (and sometimes simultaneously) comic, moving and frightening, sprinkled with flashes of high comedy”    (The Stage)

“A superb spiky performer who transcends gender and even the notion of acting itself … sad sane serious and very funny”    (The Guardian)

 Claire Dowie’s plays include:

ADULT CHILD/DEAD CHILD,

WHY IS JOHN LENNON WEARING A SKIRT?

DEATH AND DANCING

THE YEAR OF THE MONKEY and

H TO HE (I’M TURNING INTO A MAN)

Dowie’s first novel, CREATING CHAOS, is published by Methuen alongside three collections of plays. CREATING CHAOS is also published in German and Italian.

Dowie’s plays have been translated and performed all around the world.

She has just received an International Award for her performance of

H TO HE (I’M TURNING INTO A MAN) at the Thespis Festival in Germany.

Dowie has also written extensively for BBC radio and television drama.
