The Beauty Queen of Leeanane

The Beauty Queen of Leeanane

In The Beauty Queen of Leenane,
decrepit Mag Folan wages a
relentless and
petty war with her
daughter Maureen,
while living in lonely isolation
in a small cottage
in the remote Irish
community of Leenane.
While Mag interferes in her
daughter’s first and possibly
 final chance of finding true
love and happiness,
this couple struggle with
feelings of comfort freedom and love.
McDonagh paints a
vivid picture of the
aching solitude of Leenane life,
offering a suave assault,
through the bitter
mother-daughter
relationship while
at the same time
offering a powerful critique of
contemporary Ireland,
with all the familiar delights of
farce and melodrama.
Please note that Sunday’s Performance will start at 6.00pm
